Basics of Valorant Beginner Guide

Valorant Beginner Guide

When you join the first game, you will be met by agents select range. Agents are different characters you can play in Valorant. Like other characters based games, every agent has a role and 4 different abilities that are unique to that character. What is very nice about Valorant is that the agent you choose will not affect what gun you can buy or the amount of health you have. It will only affect the ability you have access to.

The maps right now are Split, Bind, Haven, Ice box, Ascent, Breeze, Fracture. A map is randomly selected before every game and is displayed in the top left of Agent select at the beginning of the game. A game on Valorant is played as the 5 players vs 5 players team format on a map. Games last until one team wins 13 rounds with a maximum 25 rounds total.

During these rounds, the attacker’s objective is to plant the Spike at one of the sites on the map or to eliminate all enemy players. Defenders have to prevent the Attackers from planning the Spike at one of the sites or to eliminate all enemy players. Teams also swap sides after 13 rounds. The attackers become the defenders and the defenders become the attackers. Round lasts for 100 seconds or 1 minutes 40 seconds but the round timer will be set to 45 seconds if the spike is planted.

When this happens, the attackers will have to defend the spike for those 45 seconds in front of the defenders. The defenders have those 45 seconds to defuse the spike. Defusing the spike requires holding the key and staying close to the spike. While you’re defusing, you are unable to shoot any weapon and move. However, you can still look around. The Spike takes 10 seconds to defuse but after 5 seconds, it hits a defuse checkpoint. And if the player start defusing, they only have to defuse for another 5 seconds instead of starting over the 10 seconds

Agents in Valorant

There are currently fifteen agents in the game: Astra, Breach, Brimstone, Cypher, Jett, Killjoy, Omen, Phoenix, Raze, Reyna, Sage, Skye, Sova, Viper, and Yoru.

Agents are divided into 4 categories: Duelist, Initiator, Sentinel, Controller.

Duelists are the Agents whose abilities really focus on getting kills. These Agents are normally the least helpful to the team due to the lack of ability that can actually help the team.

Initiators specialize in getting their team into wherever they need to be by using their abilities to block lines of sight and take aggressive peaks. Initiators are for people who likes to support the team, taking bomb sites and getting peaks. They want to help the team succeed rather than just carry by themselves.

Sentinels are the most supportive class of agents. Sentinels block access to areas of the map and tend to have what are considered the most annoying abilities.Sentinels are defensive experts who can lock down areas and watch flanks, both on attacker and defender rounds

Controller agents tend to control the flow of larger engagements and lead their team to victory through ability usage during fights. This can include smoking orbs to block sightline or the toxic line to damage enemies.

Each agent has his own pros and cons so you can learn more about each type of them to choose your best one.

Valorant Agents

Utility

Utility in Valorant is actually the agent’s ability. However, not all abilities are utilities. Utility specially refers to agent’s abilities that help the team in some sort of way. Smokes are the common form of ability in Valorant. Another form of utilities in Valorant is flashes or flashbang.

Reyna’s Dismiss, which lets her devour a nearby soul orb to become intangible, is just an ability since it only benefits that one character. While her throwable Leer, which causes near sight on opponents, would be considered utility since it helps everyone on the team

Weapon

Before joining the games, you have to choose your weapons with different prices. There are 6 types of guns in Valorant

Valorant Weapon

You have only 3 weapon slots and only 2 guns that you can choose from ingame. The first slot is the Knife. Next is the Classic. You will start every single round with a Classic unless you have a better sidearm equipped. If you buy any weapons in the sidearm menu, they will stay as the Classic. The final slot is your primary weapon. Any weapons purchased except from the sidearm category will appear in this slot. If you already had a weapon in the first slot and purchased the primary weapon, the old one will fall onto the ground and your teammates or enemies nearby can pick it up.

Aiming

Most weapons in Valorant are automatic, which means that you can fire them until they run out by holding down the left click. However, in order for your bullets to actually hit the target, there’s a lot of things to do. Remember to use your crosshair as a guide, not a perfect lineup. When the gun is fired in Valorant, the bullets tend to recoil up to the left and right. You should keep your aim centered on screen, setting your crosshair at perfect head height, as you push or peel over the course of the round. The idea is to minimize the amount of correction you will have to make when you see a player. If your crosshair is at head height, then you only have to cover a (relatively small) horizontal distance

Besides, Your shots will be noticeably wild and inaccurate while shooting on the go, even if you aim down sight. Take your time with those corners and plant your feet. A vandal can one shot someone with a heavy shield, but only if you click on their head.

Economy – Valorant Beginner Guide

Throughout a match, players will earn money or credits for completing different tasks: killing an enemy, winning or losing a round and planting the spike, etc. Once you have credits, you can spend it on weapons, shields or abilities for your Agent for that round. Weapons seem to cost you the most while shields and abilities cost a less amount. Winning some rounds in a row can help you increase your balance. However, the maximum amount of money you can have at once is 9000.

Also, You can help your teammates to buy weapons. Since Valorant has economy, there are save rounds, half buy rounds and full buy rounds. There are rounds that they spend little and save for the next round that they can invest in tools and shields or weapons. Those rounds are usually for tactical play to get high elo. Make sure you have communications with your teammates to know which one is to buy or save rounds. In that case, your teammate can cover you with the gunfire, not the sidearm.

Strategies/ Tactics – Valorant Beginner Guide

In Valorant, you need a tactic or strategy to win. The most important tactic of all is communication. Valorant is the team based game, which means that you can hardly get far on your own. Besides, you should get your headset on while on fight as this can help you much on keeping up the pace of the match.

Keeping track of enemy agents and their location is a huge advantage because it allows you to come up with strategies. Calling out to your team how many agents you see or hear also helps your teammates make decisions. If you notice that you hear 4 enemy agents running close to you, you should advise that information to your teammates that your spot is pretty in danger and they should not give the spike to you.
