Musket is a lot of fun to play with in New World and can be very good if you use the right build. We would like to introduce you to a build with the musket that makes the weapon a very viable choice. With this build, you will deal a lot of damage while being relatively safe as you can continuously hit people from a very large distance. You can one or two shots light armor users and also do more damage than most people think that the musket is capable of against heavy armor users. The best thing about this build is that it’s really cheap to make so if you just want to simply try it out and see if you like it or not, you absolutely can without losing too much.

Attributes for Musket Build

First of all, let’s start with how you want to invest points into your attributes. This is the one thing that can 100% make or break the build and completely change the way you look at the musket. A lot of players will go full dexterity with the musket due to the simple fact that it is the primary attribute. For musket, the more points you spend in an attribute, the less damage you get in return for it. It especially becomes noticeable after you invest about 200 to 250 points into an attribute. Instead of going full dexterity you want to get any of these ratios.

Ratio for Musket Build

However, you really want to try to get 300 dexterity and at least 150 intelligence for the best result. This is the best ratio for all damage. 150 intelligence will increase your elemental damage and 300 dexterity give you a free crit every time dodge. Both of these are bonuses that you definitely want, so spending your points like this will maximize your damage output. Don’t worry about constitution with this build because you are going to be a complete class cannon. It really does not matter whether you save 50 constitution or 5 constitution. In many cases, it will not change the outcome in terms of whether you die or live when you’re PvP.

You are simple paper with other builds or weapons but with the musket, it really isn’t as the potential distance you have with the musket, combined with the fact that you can relatively easily hit people from a very large distance. It’s all about positioning and maintaining distance and the more you play musket, the better you will get at it. Especially because we will combine the musket with the rapier, which is a very useful weapon for load mobility and also dealing damage while preventing incoming damage. Moreover, rapier has the same primary and secondary attributes so it’s definitely a preferred option to pair up.

Gear in Musket Build

You really want to pick up gear that gives you as much damage as possible. So, dexterity and intelligence, as long as you maintain the ratio above, pure damage oriented gears can usually be found quite cheap. You can get gear with high gear score from the trading post and really only spend a few hundred coins for a full set.

For example, you have skinning armor that gives you a high amount of dexterity that is usually going to be very cheap. As we are in fact a glass cannon, we really want to have that dodge roll and stay in the light equipment load category. It’s just really nice to have the mobility and extra damage from being a light armor user with this build. To get the most armor while also staying in the light equipped load, you can use the below combination of medium and light armor. They will pretty much result in the same armor stats and make sure that you have the highest possible armor ratings while still being in the light category.

Recording perks, there are a few that you really want to get on your gear. The main perk that you want to pick up is The “Empowering Shooter’s stance”. It’s a great buff for one of our main abilities that I will talk about in a bit. You should definitely try to get that perk.

Another good perk to keep in mind is the “Crippling Powder Burn”. As it will slow everything you hit with a powder burn ability. But outside of that, just try to get as much raw dexterity and intelligence as possible.

Jewelry

For jewelry, the same thing applies. Get as much damage as possible. For your ring, it’s really nice to pick up a ring with the extra “Thrust Damage” perk as the damage done by your musket is in fact of the thrust type. By the way, with the gems you get with these, you can get some defensive stats to get some physical and elemental absorption going as well.

Thrust Damage

Weapon

For your weapon, you just want a musket with as much damage as possible. Obviously the closer to 600 gear score, the better your build is. In terms of perks, you really want to pick the enchanted perk as it is extremely good for muskets.

Furthermore, if you can get the Vicious brick, it’s also very nice. These 2 perks: Enchanted and Vicious are the two best perks for muskets. Other really good options include Keenly Empower, Keenly Jagged and Keenly Awareness. So for perks, we definitely have some options.

Gems

For the gems you decide to put in a musket, it gets interesting. There are a few options here as well but so far I have preferred a 50% conversion gem to intelligence due to the scaling and the fact that your investment in the intelligence attribute gives you bonuses to elemental damage. Furthermore, it also mitigates physical and thrust absorption stats from the enemy and all round it just seems to give the most power to this build. When you are converting the intelligence, you might want to avoid using ice for fire though as there are some players with ice or fire absorption purely to counter mages in the game. You can also convert to Arcane because in PvE, the enemy has the least resistance to it out of the possible elements that you can convert to.

New World Musket

The alternative option for the gem that you use is a diamond as using a diamond can also be really nice. It gives you 15% extra damage when you are at full health. Hence, if you can make sure that you stay at full health at all times, which is definitely possible since you are a Sniper and you play from a long distance, you will have a lot of uptime with this gem.

Skill tree of Musket Build

Musket has 2 stable abilities that you definitely want. These are powder burn and shooter stance. Powder Burn is just really nice as it’s an empowered shot, which means that it will deal more damage but it also applies a burn to the enemy. It does really good damage. Shooter stance gives you 5 shots that you can fire in quick succession with more control than normal shots. It’s really good to use when you’re hunting someone running away or even running towards you or if you’re just sniping people from a distance in general. Basically, it’s good in any situation where there’s an open field and you have your target on lock. Besides, there is some flexibility in terms of which ability you want to use.

New World Musket Build

I use either the sticky bomb just for the fun of it  since it is AoE and it’s a grenade. Guess what? Who doesn’t want a grenade in their kit right? It can also be quite good in wars or outpost rush since everybody is grouped up together all the time so you can apply some easy AoE damage with it. Traps are nice for dueling more control especially if you chain it with the rapier, that stuns enemies and powder shot is 150% extra damage shot that really fits the sniper playstyle. You should really use the Powder Shot since in an outpost rush, you can always apply it pretty much and you can just use it a lot. It’s a really good opener due to its first blood perks and it can also increase your damage for a few seconds

This selection of passive perks will make sure you have all the right modifiers, all the right bonuses, and all the things that make your damage as high as possible. Each perk either directly modifies your damage by increasing it or indirectly helps your damage output in some way.

Besides, not to mention Weakened Defense, the only perk that has armor penetration in this skill tree, definitely a really nice perk to have when you’re facing against people with a lot of armor stats or anything like that.

Dex Buff Food

If you’re struggling to get 300 dexterity, make honeyed melon. Honeyed melon is a tier 3 food that gives you a dexterity buff that is really cheap to make, unlike the tier 4 and 5 dexterity foods. More importantly, it will push you over 300 dexterity.
