Before you begin your adventure in the world of Diablo II or Diablo II: Resurrected Character, you’ll need to select a character class. The five choices offer a range of gameplay options, from the magic-oriented Sorceress to the brutish and battle-hardened Barbarian.

D2R_Character_Attributes

Though the characters differ significantly in their gameplay, they all share the same general attributes. The four primary stats, Strength, Dexterity, Life, and Energy, will determine how capable your character is at moving through the game world, attacking enemies, taking damage, equipping gear, etc.  Some attributes will be more critical to one class than they will be to others. The Barbarian, for instance, will want to put most of his points into Strength, and few to almost zero into Energy, while the Sorceress and the Necromancer might want to invest some points into Energy. However, all players will need a thorough understanding of what these stats do to choose how to allocate their stat points effectively.

Main Attributes

You can find most of the critical attributes on the character sheet in-game. While they explained the fundamental connections between each stat, knowing the ins and outs of your character attributes can help you maximize your stat points for your respective class build.
  • Strength
  • Dexterity
  • Vitality
  • Energy
  • Stamina
  • Life
  • Mana

Strength

The basics of Strength in Diablo II is that it increases your damage out. But most importantly, most pieces of equipment such as armor and weapons have a strength requirement that you must meet to be used.
We recommend having a minimum of 120 points allocated in Strength by the time you reach the max level. This way, you can be sure that every piece of equipment you find will be immediately usable.
Outside of allocating points in Strength, you can also gain bonuses from certain spells, items, and equipment—you can see the increased Strength indicated by blue numbers on your character sheet.

Dexterity

Attack Rating is what determines your chance of hitting an enemy. Your Attack Rating improves depending on how many points you put into Dexterity and if you’re equipping magic items that provide Dexterity bonuses.
  • Your percentage to hit an enemy also increases when you’re fighting those lower in levels than your character.

Vitality

D2R_Vit

A classic character attribute in most RPGs, Vitality benefits your character by increasing your life points.
Different classes gain life at different rates, and some even start with higher Vitality than others. Most ranged classes like the Amazon and Sorceress will have lower Vitality than the Barbarian, for example.

Diablo II: Resurrected Energy

Energy determines how big your mana pool is.
Class builds usually ignore putting points into Energy, even for heavy spellcasters like the Sorceress and the Necromancer. This is because, by the later Arcs, you’ll be able to find pieces of equipment that’ll give you sufficient bonuses to your total mana.

Diablo II: Resurrected Stamina

Exploring the vast world of Diablo II will require you to have a decent amount of Stamina, as this is the stat that determines how long your character can continuously run at a time. Your stamina bar is the yellow line located directly to the right of your Life Orb.
If you run out of Stamina completely, your character will be forced to walk and you must wait until your Stamina bar starts recharging again. Standing still will restore your mana faster than walking.

  • You can always use a stamina potion too if you want to continue running for longer periods of time.
  • Stamina shrines will give you unlimited stamina for a brief period.
  • Stamina is also tied to your character’s Defense Rating.
  • Your Stamina won’t deplete when running in town.

Diablo II: Resurrected Life

Life is the number of health points that a player character has. When your life reaches zero, your character dies, and you’ll spawn back at your main encampment, depending on which Arc you’re currently playing.
